

Rose Virginia Capodice Kapranos, known as Rose, Mom, Gram and Great Gram, peacefully passed away on August 18, 2023, in Portland, Oregon at the age of 99. Rose was born December 16, 1923, to Joseph and Anna (Guardalabene) Capodice in Oak Park, Illinois.
Rose was a hard working and strong individual- known for learning and teaching investment skills and for her devout Catholic faith. Throughout her life, Rose remained deeply committed to her faith, actively participating in Catholic churches wherever she resided. Rose was most recently active at St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Camas, Washington.
Rose’s professional career was long, ranging from selling Avon to serving as secretary to the Controller of US Bancorp for many years. She served as president of the National Association of Investors and was the proud founder of the Portland Area Council of the National Association of Investment Clubs. In her free time Rose liked the company of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Rose also enjoyed learning more about her Sicilian heritage and enjoyed hobbies such as genealogy, cooking, music and traveling. She was active in Amici d’Italia of Portland. These passions brought her joy and enriched her life.
Rose was a treasured friend to loved ones from all walks of life and she kept in touch with many of them. These included friends from grade school to those from all 15 of her homes over the years. Her last home was at Whitewood Gardens in Portland, Oregon, where she was beloved.
Rose leaves behind a legacy of love and strength. She is survived by her daughters Karen K. Bowen and Beth K. Ackermann, her daughter-in-law, Linda (Irvine) Kapranos, her grandchildren Nicholas W. Kapranos, Anna (Kapranos) Moran, Elizabeth Kapranos and Elijah W. Bowen, and her great grandchildren Charles and Lucia Kapranos and Emma and Sofia Moran. Rose was preceded in death by her husband, Spiro William Kapranos, and her son, Richard William Kapranos. Rose was also preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Martin J. Capodice and Joseph M. Capodice, and her sister Mary Ann (Capodice) Lewis.
A funeral Mass to honor Rose’s memory will be held at The Madeleine Parish, Portland, Oregon, at 11:00am on Saturday, September 9th, with a Viewing at 10:00am and Rosary at 10:30am. A Burial Service will be held at Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Hillside, Illinois.
