Rose was born on March 22, 1943, in Portland, Oregon, to Ernest Clarence and Minnie Dorathea Ruecker. She grew up in the Gresham, Oregon area and graduated from Centennial High School.
In her early career, Rose worked as a bank teller in Portland. She later left the workforce to raise a family with her husband in Aloha, Oregon. When she returned to work, Rose became an officer of the family-owned automobile business, working alongside Charles until her retirement.
She was a proud member of Christ the Vine Lutheran Church in Damascus, and an active member of TOPS, a philanthropic Sorority in Beaverton, Oregon, where she formed many lifelong friendships.
Rose was an avid reader, a true social butterfly, and deeply involved in her community. She was a cherished member of a local Estacada women’s group known as the “Swimming Women,” a close-knit circle who gathered for luncheons, birthday celebrations, and weekly water aerobics.
Rose and Charles met in 1963 on a blind date and were instantly smitten. They became engaged within three months, married within six months, and went on to share a loving and adventurous marriage for 62 years—departing this earth together.
Their greatest joy was time spent with family and friends, creating lasting memories with their children, Dan and Michelle. As a family, they embarked on many adventures over the years, including RV camping, boating, and dune buggy trips at Florence and Sand Lake. They traveled the Oregon Coast to Nehalem Bay, water skied at Lake Billy Chinook and Detroit Lake, and enjoyed countless trips in their fifth wheel and motorhome. Whether it was a planned excursion or getting stuck in the mud, it was always an adventure.
In retirement, Charles and Rose fulfilled a lifelong dream by traveling to Alaska in their motorhome with close friends. They also toured the American South, visiting family in Texas and traveling through Louisiana, Florida, and Tennessee.
Rose was a devoted wife, a loving mother, and a doting grandmother to her two grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Charles Roger Shook; her parents, Ernest and Minnie Ruecker; and her brothers, Dennis Ruecker and Gordon Ruecker.
Rose is survived by her loving children, Daniel Shook and Michelle Madarieta (Jon Madarieta); her sister, Dorathy DeWitt (Bill DeWitt); brothers, Don Ruecker (Teri Ruecker) and Alan Ruecker; grandchildren, Lauren and Aidan Shook; and many nieces and nephews.
Please join the family in honoring the lives of Charles and Rose on Friday, January 23, 2026, at 4:00 PM, for a Celebration of Life and reception at the Hillsboro Elks Lodge, 7553 NE Quatama St., Hillsboro, OR 97124. Dinner and non-alcoholic refreshments will be provided.
