Roy Charles Hughes Jr., of Portland, Oregon passed away at Pacific Gardens Memory Care Facility on August 23, 2020. He was born November 29, 1960, to Roy C. Hughes Sr. and Colleen A. (Driscoll) Hughes. After completing 10th grade, he felt school was Not For Him and worked various jobs until he found his career as a Meat Cutter/Packer. He lived in Arizona to be near his parents and pursued his career, accumulating "Recipes" along the way. His career lasted 20 years, and then his life drastically changed one night when he was near-fatally assaulted in 1994. He was in the hospital for months and fought his way back to health but spent the rest of his life trying to overcome the residual effects of the Traumatic Brain Injury that was inflicted upon him. He returned to Portland when his parents passed away to be near most of his family. He kept hope and worked tirelessly toward the goals of having a job and driving a car once again. He was always ready to help in whatever way he could. He was the grounds keeper for the Woodland Park First Baptist Church for as long as he was able. He was a man of faith and did not like to miss going to church on Sunday. He said he needed to work on his patience. "I have a temper!" he would say, then point to his hair and say," You see I've got red hair!" At age 59 his ability declined, his spirit tired and, with family near, he left this difficult world behind. He is preceded in death by his parents and older brother, David. He is survived by brothers, Curtis, Robert and Mike; and sisters, Dawn, Cindy, and Becky. He is also survived by half brothers, Jerry, Chuck, and Mark; half sisters, Kay, Joyce, and Debbie; as well as nieces, nephews, friends and Pastor Ken.
