We fondly remember Roy and all the work he did for the benefit of the friends of the SP&S 700.  He will not be forgotten.

We will all miss Roy. We never knew when Roy would roll up to City Liquidators in his little pickup truck, to say Hi  or check out something for the PRPS railroad club.  Roy always had a kind word and a big smile.

I've only known Roy for the past six years, since I joined the PRPA.  
He was a wealth of mechanical knowledge, had years of experience, and an attitude to go with it all.  
He loved "The Lady", and took good care of her.
I will miss Saturday morning political discussions with him, he and I are of like mind in this arena.  
God bless you Roy, and your family, we will all miss you.

Roy was a good friend to us all and very valuable to the PRPA. 
We will miss his 'lets do it spirit' and the vast knowledge he brought to the roundhouse.

Roy Jones was an integral part of the Pacific Railroad Preservation Society, and without his contributions and dedication to the success of the SP&S 700 steam locomotive, it might well not be running today. He also was a  teacher who advanced our understanding steam operation and repair and has left us with a legacy of "tricks of the trade." And, he was friend who regaled us with great stories.

People of his character and generosity are rare, indeed. We will all miss you, Roy, and you will always be in our hearts and thoughts.

I've known Roy for many years.  I used to have him do repairs on the equipment at the building where I was chief engineer.  If any of you know the weather beacon on top of the Standard Plaza building in downtown Portland, that is part of Roy's legacy.  He rebuilt the mechanism that raises and lowers the beacon for me.  In 1999, the steam locomotive 700 was on display at OMSI for their Christmas event.  I invited Roy down to visit.  To this day, I will always remember him standing there, looking at the locomotive, and making the comment "you people are crazy!  Who would want to work on something like this, getting dirty and greasy?  No way would I do this!"  And yet, Roy hung around for several hours that day.  And later, he started showing up at the roundhouse.  He still muttered about how crazy we all were, but you know, just like the roundhouse cat (Roy had the whiskers too) he kept coming back, and finally, he stayed!  I reminded him of his earlier comments a few times, and he just muttered that I must have been hearing things.  But his grin told me different......!  The next several years were made much more interesting (and lively) with Roy around.  He will be sorely missed by all of us.
