Royce Glen Suell was born on May 2,1941 in Center, Texas, to Maxie and Celeste (Brown) Suell. He was the third of seven children, Ennis, Myra, Royce, Billy, Joanne, Raymond and Mattie. He grew up in Center, where he attended Huber and Timpson Educational Institutions.
On October 12, 1962, Royce married Ella Reen Goodwin, in Center, Texas. Their union was blessed with three children: Melvin Suell (who preceded him in death), Johnnie Loraine and Teresa Lynn.
He later relocated to Portland, Oregon in 1966, where he worked diligently to provide for his family. He dedicated over 40 years of service to Esco Company before retiring in Portland Oregon. A hardworking and resourceful man, Royce also held jobs at the Portland Auction and the Hilton Hotel, always ensuring his loved ones were cared for.
Royce had a deep passion for horses, a love that began in Texas, where he trained them. Even after moving to Portland, he continued to ride, finding joy and peace in the saddle. In addition to his love for horses, he enjoyed outdoor camping and fishing. Royce had a special place in his heart for his 1965 metallic green V8 Pontiac GTO. It was a head-turner wherever he drove, due to the loud dual exhaust pipes system, a reflection of his style and love for the road. His passion for driving was unmatched, and in one unforgettable moment, he even drove through a tornado—coming out without a scratch on himself or his car.
Royce dedicated his life to Christ at an early age, a man of faith, Royce was a dedicated member of the Church of God in Christ for many years. He was a devoted Deacon and Usher known for his warm smile and heartfelt passion in every congregation he attended where he continued to serve with joy and dedication.
Royce leaves to cherish his memory: his two loving daughters, Johnnie Loraine and Teresa Lynn two grandchildren, Michael and Danielle; two great great-grandchildren, Aiden and Striker Sale; three sisters, Myra Morristene Mitchell, JoAnne Green, and Matti and James Neal; brother-in-law, Melinda Suell: sister-in-law, a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and dear friends.
Royce’s strong work ethic and love for people defined his life and left an enduring legacy.
He will be deeply missed by all who have the privilege of knowing him.
