Her grandchildren didn’t call her Grandma, they called her Bobby. She was also known by many friends as Ruby Duby!
She graduated in 1931 from Alliance High School in Alliance, Nebraska. In 1932 she traveled to Scottsbluff, Nebraska and received nurses training at Northwestern Nebraska Methodist Hospital. After graduating, she worked for an Ear, Nose, Throat doctor. She married the love of her life, Kenneth Green and later they became the proud parents of a daughter, Lois, who was born in 1933. They both worked at various jobs in Nebraska and made the decision to move to Oregon in 1943. They pulled their 5th wheel trailer, all the way to Oregon with them and initially settled in Roseburg. Eventually they relocated to Portland and built their dream house.
Her husband Kenneth passed away in 1957 at the age of 45 and from that point on Ruby focused on her family, friends and decided to return to the work force. She went to work as a bookkeeper for a photography studio owned by her dear friends Bob & Bill Roberts. She continued to work as a bookkeeper for two other businesses and finally decided to retire in 1998 at the young age of 84.
Ruby enjoyed having luncheons in her home for family and friends. She insisted on cooking and preparing all the food. Somehow she always came up with a different menu and a new recipe she was anxious to try out. Of course the food was always delicious! She was a fierce pinochle player and bingo player and also had card parties in her home for her many friends.
Everyone will miss her smile, positive attitude, good heart, friendship and love. We truly admired her strength and courage.
She lived independently until 2008 and then she moved to Cherry Blossom Cottages.
Ruby leaves behind 1 daughter Lois, 6 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren.
Arrangements under the direction of Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home, Portland, OR.
