Russell LeRoy Bauer

He graduated from Grant High School and made life long friends from his years at Grant.

Russ married Ella Claudine Matthews in May 1950 and they celebrated 59 years of marriage before Claudine’s passing in 2009.

He retired from US West, and had owned the San Rafael Fabric Store in Portland in the late 60's and presently owned Sud-n-Shine Car Wash in Bend, Oregon. Russ and Claudine spent a lot of time in their condo in Bend. They often took their grandchildren with them to their Bend condo and gave their grandchildren wonderful memories of snow skiing, water skiing, biking, and swimming. Russ and Claudine spent 2 weeks in Maui every summer for many years, and loved traveling the world together, visiting numerous countries and US states.

Russ loved to sing and had a beautiful voice. He sang in barbershop quartets, his church choir, and the Singing Christmas Tree for many years. Russ and Claudine made many good friends and neighbors, living in the same neighborhood for over forty years. They moved to Summerplace retirement community in 2003. Russ was quite an eloquent man, and dressed elegantly for the many formal events he and Claudine attended. They both loved dressing up and made a good looking couple. Russ was such a gentleman always, and many commented upon how polite he was. He treated his wife, daughter, and granddaughters like ladies, always walking on the outside, opening doors, pulling out chairs. Even most recently when he was not as strong, Russ was wanting to open doors for his daughter wherever they went.

Russ and Claudine donated their time to charitable work, and both volunteered at Doernbecher Children’s Hospital with dancers for Doernbecher. Russ and Claudine belonged to Calvary Presbyterian Church. He had a strong faith, and served as an Elder at his church.

Those left behind to honor and miss him are his daughter and son-in-law Lauren and Mike; son, Rusty; grandchildren Krystle, Jaime, Sean, Alyssa, Tanner, and Will, and little great-granddaughter Ava; his loving sister Darlene, many nieces and nephews, and life long dear friends.

His memorial will be Thursday, November 17th at 1 pm at Calvary Presbyterian Church, 3156 NE 71st Ave, Portland, Oregon.
