

She was born on September 23, 1938 to Alvah and Dora Cottrell and was the eldest of their six children. She was born in Portland and grew up in the Laurelhurst area. When she was one year old, she was named as a Gerber Baby in the local newspaper.
Ruth’s family spent her childhood attending Emanuel Temple Church and were stewards of the church in helping with the caretaking of the building and grounds keeping. Later in her life she served in many roles with Holladay Park Church of God, where she served lunches and snacks to the kids in the cafeteria before being placed in the nursery to care for the babies of the church.
Ruth married David Clemmens and together they raised two children, Dale and Tammy, in her hometown of Portland. Ruth and David later divorced.
Ruth enjoyed horses, reading romance novels, and loved spending time at the beach with her family. Many fond family memories were had while visiting the beach destinations on family trips and renting horses for long afternoon walks.
Being part of a loving and caring family, after Ruth suffered a stroke, she stayed with sister, Martha, in Castle Rock, Washington. Before moving to Seaside with her sister Mirabel and brother in law, Bob, for a few years.
Ruth was preceded in death by her brother, Dan, and her son Dale. She is survived by her sisters, Martha, Mirabel, Lois, and Phyllis; her daughter, Tammy; and her grandsons, Justin and Brandon Proppe. She will be dearly missed but forever loved by all.
