

She grew up in Denver, Colorado and in 1947 she met and married Joseph Duran. They moved to Oregon and settled in Portland in the late 50’s.
Ruth was the mother of seven children, Richard, Eloyse, Eloyda, Joseph, Evelyn, Robert, and Angela. In addition to raising her family and maintaining a spotless home, worked as a house cleaner and took in laundry and ironing.
Family was the most important thing in Ruth’s life. The family enjoyed many trips to Denver and Idaho to visit family. Church was another important part of Ruth’s life and she enjoyed reading her Bible daily.
After her husband’s passing Ruth spent a great amount of time volunteering. She has been a consumer member of the Multnomah County Community Health Council and was honored as a “Public Hero” by the Multnomah County Health Department in 2016. Ruth was also a supporter of the Project Hope, United States Deputy Sherrifs’ Association, Easter Seals, and Father Flanagan’s Boys” Home.
Ruth passed away on December 30, 2016 at her home in Portland with family by her side. She is survived by her children, Richard Duran, Eloyse Erickson, Eloyda Duarte, Joseph Duran, Evelyn Langford, and Angela Duran; brothers, Jim Sanchez, Walter Sanchez, and Kenny Jackmen; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and 5 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son, Robert; husband, Joseph; sister, Pricella Hernandez; and her parents.
A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, January 7, 2017 at Zeller Chapel of the Roses Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made in her name to Care Partners Hospice or the American Cancer Society.
