

Ruth Dietrich Haines was born in Cleveland, Ohio on March 12, 1915. Ruth passed away surrounded by her family on May 5, 2014 in Portland, Oregon. Ruth attended Notre Dame Academy from kindergarden through high school. She graduated from Notre Dame College in Ohio. She received a teachers certificate from Columbia University. It was there that she met her husband Hunter. Ruth and Hunter married after his officers training. During Hunter's service in World War II they lived in Closter, New Jersey. They moved to Illinois after Hunter's active duty in the Korean War.
Hunter preceded her in death in 1997. Ruth was a resident of Northbrook, Illinois for 55 years. She was a member of the NOrthbrook Historical Society, Junior League of Englewood, New Jersey, PEO Chapter JS, Books on Wheels for the Northbrook Public Library, and a member of the St. Norbert's Ministry of Care.
Hunter and Ruth enjoyed sailing in Lake Michigan and the British Virgin Islands. They enjoyed many trips to Europe, the Far East, and Indonesia. Ruth is survived by her children, Ann H. Haines, Bill Haines, daughter-in-law Pam Haines, son-in-law Robert Gorsuch, grandchildren Kelley Gorsuch, Taylor Gorsuch, Marissa Haines, Eric Haines, and sister Marianne Erb.
A Memorial Mass will be held in Northbrook.
