

Sandra Ellen McMullen was a world traveler, an effervescent hostess, wicked smart card and game aficionado, creative gardener, passionate collector of arcane treasures, unabashed lover of animals, and a long-time active member of Piedmont Presbyterian Church and its craft guild. An avid reader, she was rarely without a book nearby or in her purse. Her varied interests also included work with Friends of the Leach Botanical Garden and a key position on a bar trivia team, With Six You Get Eggroll.
In early January of this year she suffered a heart attack, had bypass surgery and endured a cascading series of worsening health problems. She passed away Aug. 12, 2021, in the company of beloved family and friends.
Born Jan. 4, 1956 to Lloyd Homer and Leora Marie McMullen (nee Nichols), Sandra’s first home was on Interlachen Lane with Blue Lake in her backyard. She attended Fairview Grade School, Hough Grade School, Shumway Junior High, Hudson Bay High School, Clark Community College, University of Oregon/Law School and received her law degree from Lewis and Clark College. While at the U of O she worked at the Oregon Daily Emerald. Her career included stints at The Patton Home and credit management positions at Meier and Frank and US Bank and loan servicing management Wilshire Financial Group, IBM, Merrill Lynch and Seterus Mortgage, where she put her law degree to work.
She is survived by siblings: Peggy McMullen (Mike Acree) and Brad McMullen of Portland, Carol McMullen (Bill Bahrke) in Bend; nephew and nieces Max Brugger (Alyson Kraus) and Geneva Bahrke of Portland, Jennifer (Travis Bizjak) of Camas, Wash.; great-nephews and nieces: Jasper and Coltan Bizjak of Camas and Elliot, Theo and Corinne Brugger of Portland; dear friends who attended to her in her final week, Gordon Olson, Carl Smith and Robin Hansen; and beloved extended family and many friends. She was a prized godmother to Max and Geneva and spent many months before COVID restrictions babysitting Elliot, Theo and Corinne.
Donations may be made in her honor to Piedmont Presbyterian Church or Oregon Humane Society.
