Shelley Jeanne Whittaker-Burns was born on February 2, 1967, in Santa Monica, California, to Pamala and Louis Haehnlen. After a life filled with love, adventure, and an unyielding spirit, she passed away peacefully at her home in Gresham, Oregon, on March 19, 2025, at the age of 58.
Shelley was a woman who truly lived life on her own terms. Known for her boundless energy, her independent nature, and a sense of humor that could light up any room, she faced every challenge with strength and resilience. Her mantra, “suck it up,” was born of her own experiences and served as a reminder to those around her to meet life head-on, no matter the obstacles.
She loved adventure—whether it was soaring across the treetops on a zip line, racing through sand dunes, skiing down snowy mountains, or dirt biking through rugged trails. Shelley approached life with a fearless enthusiasm, always eager to experience it all. She also found peace in quieter moments, whether it was crafting, tending to her garden, or gathering with friends for a board game.
Shelley’s true joy came from her family. Her sons, Cody and Dillon, were her heart, and she embraced Gianna, Fred, and Clover as her own. Her relationships with her husband, Ken and her dearly departed Ed, were a source of great love and fulfillment, as were her bonds with her beloved dogs, especially Teddy and Little Mrs. Maisel.
Shelley had a deep affection for giraffes, which symbolized her philosophy of standing tall and reaching for the highest branches of our dreams. She lived this out every day, constantly striving for more and never shying away from what life had to offer.
Above all, Shelley’s kindness, love, and ability to make people feel seen and appreciated are what will remain in the hearts of those who knew her. Her legacy is one of strength, joy, and an unwavering belief in the importance of family and living life fully.
Though she is no longer with us, Shelley’s spirit will continue to inspire us all. Her memory will live on in the lessons she taught us, the love she gave, and the unforgettable impact she made on the lives of everyone who was fortunate enough to know her. We all love you, Mama Shelley, and we will carry you with us always.
