Shirley was born in Portland, OR on December 26, 1924, and had 4 sisters. Shirley lived in the Portland area her entire life. She attended Kellogg Grade School, and graduated from Monroe High. In 1949 she married Lawrence V. Parker, and together they had 2 children named John and Sharon. In 1954 they built their home in SE Portland, where they lived together happily for the rest of their days. Their son John passed away in 1984, and Shirley was widowed in 2000 after 51 years of marriage. Shirley is survived by her daughter Sharon, daughter-in-law Janet, sister Lynda, Grandchildren Michael and Lisa, and Great Grandchildren Molly, William and Sydney.
Shirley was a very kind nurturing soul with a big heart. Her passion in life was taking care of people; prior to becoming a mother she worked in nursing. Once the kids came along, she dedicated herself as a stay-at-home “domestic goddess”. Shirley was a very selfless mother and wife, and would do anything for her loved ones. Shirley had a big heart, a great sense of humor, and a gentle and simple nature. Her favorite pass times were picnics, camping, sight-seeing, raising her pet Chihuahuas, and solving puzzle books. Her favorite singer was Luciano Pavarotti. She wouldn't be caught dead without her lipstick on... and even in her final days we made sure she looked beautiful.
Shirley was a beautiful person who touched the hearts of everyone that knew her. We're thankful for all of the fond memories she's left with us, and her spirit will always be with us. Shirley will be dearly missed.
