Duong Tri

This is what I call you..but that is not all you have been to me the last 40 years! You were not just an uncle to me, you were more than that. We’ve created many memories together- from being in your wedding, Tet new year celebrations, OC foodies trip, san diego vacays, facetime videos, OC nightclub dancing, and so many more.  Duong Tri, you were the uncle who brought joy to the family…Loved to travel, loved to dance, love to munch on ‘an hang’! I’ve always adored being in your presence whenever you were around. You have this light, sweet, fun loving, love life aura about you. I miss you so much already. When I was younger I could not keep up with your witty jokes you…you’d sit and wait for my response and when i couldn’t come up with one quick enough…you would say’ “hua Xíu…what do you have to say about that?” We’d just sit there and have the giddiest laugh about the silliest nonsense. Gosh,  I’m so thankful to have met you and for all the wonderful memories we’ve had together! May you rest in peace Duong Tri.

My uncle, Steven, had the most gentle, kind hearted soul who had this carefree outlook in life. Anyone who has crossed paths knows this about him and it made it so easy for us to want to be around him and loved him. I’ll never forget his words of wisdom, “Do what makes you happy because life is more than sitting around and worrying about it” which deeply resonates with me to this day. I’ll miss hearing his laugh every time I call my aunt…he was never far from her and always ready for FaceTime.  The adoration and dedication to his wife and three daughters were admirable, always putting them first. The poem by Donna Ashworth below reminded me so much of him and what he would say:

When I go
don’t learn to live without me
just learn to live with my love
in a different way

And if you need to see me
close your eyes 
or look in your shadow
when the sun shines

I’m there

Sit with me in the quiet
and you will know
that I did not leave

There is no leaving
when one soul is blended 
with another

When I go

in the moments 

May you rest in peace, Uncle Steven. You have left such a footprint in all our lives and will be dearly missed.

There he goes, spirit free, walking onto a new path into the higher world. He leaves his great laughter and memories for us. Every time I talked to him, or heard anything about him, there would be guaranteed laughter and smiles. Couldn’t even cry when we shared or talked of rough life through sickness. He found humor, even though I knew he was in awful pain. But no vain for my brother, he found ways to self comfort and eased the worrisome from everyone he knew, never complaining! He told me he successfully quit smoking for several months. My brother, you did your best (Hehe) 

Trí, my brother. Thank you for being a fun and good brother-in-law. You were full of joy and a sweet member of our family. There will be an emptiness in our life that will never be filled or replaced, but I will try always find the humor in life, as you did. I will always remember you, brother!

Anh Trí là người anh cũng là người bạn dễ thương, dễ mến . Nhất là những câu chuyện hài làm cho ai nghe cũng phải cười ra nước mắt. Cám Ơn Anh và chị Trân cùng mấy cháu để lại nhiều kỷ niệm với gia đình em. Hai gia đình chúng ta đã có nhiều chuyến đi road trip, đi cruise, đi camping, đi ăn cùng như những buổi dạ hội. Ước gì cứ giữ mãi như vậy phải không Anh. Nhưng dù sao thì không có gì gọi là mãi mãi. Bất cứ những gì có sanh đều phải có tử , chỉ sớm hoặc muộn . Như  Anh đã vui đi trước và đi rất xa và không còn gì cho Anh luyến tiếc và nhớ phải không Anh oi ! Chúng Em vẫn còn đầy  nổi nhớ thương vẫn ghi khắc trong tim chúng Em . 
Chúng em rất là nhớ Anh Trí ảnh nói từ nay không có ai gọi mỗi ngày tán dóc chim trời mây nước nữa rồi . Một sự mất mát to lớn không còn nghe tiếng của anh nữa. Gia đình thường gọi anh là “boy friend” của chồng em. Mỗi lần điện thoại reo là boy friend của anh gọi kìa từ nay cái thân quen không còn nữa. 
Gia đình em thành kính chia buồn cùng chị và các cháu. Cầu cho linh hồn anh an nghĩ và sớm siêu thoát.

Chú Trí  ơi! Mấy ngày nay mỗi lần tôi đi lấy thơ ngang nhà chú lòng tôi se thắt lại khi tôi không còn thấy bóng dáng chú nữa .Cứ mỗi lần đi lấy thơ chú luôn stop tôi lại nói vài câu dí dỏm rồi chú cười- giọng cười đặc biệt của chú không bao giờ tôi quên!! Hơn 20 năm làm neighbors của chú những gì chú đã làm cho tôi vẫn còn đầy up trong tôi . Kỷ niệm vẫn còn đây nhưng chú đâu rồi?? Tôi đã thật sự mất chú rồi sao??

Trân, người bạn đời và duy nhất là Trân.
Rủi may, vận đời tới lúc phải chia tay.
Ít nhiều kỷ niệm người anh cả, bọn mình rơi lệ khẽ thầm chữ biệt ly, thật buồn thay…

Steven Tri Sam, may you rest in peace. I remember him as a cheerful and full of life kind of person. He said to me, 'Whatever life handed to you, you learn to deal with it and go with the flow. Why stress about it when it is out of your hands?' At the beginning, when I realized he was a smoker, a chain smoker, I told him to stop, but he laughed and told me, 'Why stop when I like what I'm doing?' He said if smoking didn't kill me, something else would. At least he knew his fate; I believe he knew his time. He was an all-around nice guy and would only want the best for others. He will be missed.
