Stuart was born August 7, 1943 to Donald Sr. and Mary Morris in Portland, OR. He attended Laurelhurst Grade School until 5th grade and completed his primary years at Raleigh Hills Grade School. He graduated from Beaverton High School in 1961. Stuart swam on the varsity swim team, lettering three of his four years. He was a member of the Boy Scouts, earning his Life Badge and spent his summers at Camp Cooper and Camp Merriweather.
After high school, Stuart worked for Schnitzer Steel while attending Portland State University. It was at PSU Stuart was introduced to the love of his life, Gayle. They married in 1965 and made their home in NE Portland. Together they welcomed three children. Stuart took pride in his family and participated in many activities including PTA, school carnivals, and family swim night at the YMCA. Entertaining children brought Stuart joy. The “Talking Pumpkin” at Halloween and appearing as Santa Claus for family parties, nursing homes, and even flying to NC to surprise his grandchildren Christmas morning were among his favorites.
Stuart graduated from PSU in 1971 and began his career in the Accounting Department at Jantzen Sportswear. He rose to Comptroller for Men’s Wear. While at Jantzen, Stuart nurtured a small home accounting business. Upon leaving Jantzen in 1981, he expanded his accounting practice. He enjoyed sharing his knowledge, listening to, and helping others and only recently retired. Stuart was involved in the Oregon Association of Independent Accountants and Oregon State Board of Accountancy for 15years. As a member of the OAIA, Stuart represented small accounting practices, assisted in expanding membership, and co-taught CPA Ethics for 8 years. He held offices within OAIA 2012-2018 which included a term as President. Stuart served several terms for the Episcopal Diocese of Western Oregon as Treasurer. Stuart was also involved in the parish of St. Michael’s and All Angels Episcopal Church and was an usher for many years.
Stuart remained an active swimmer for his entire life. After high school he swam in meets for the Multnomah Athletic Club, participated in the Labor Day Columbia River swim for several years, and continued to swim with the MAC Early Birds over one hundred miles each year until recently.
Stuart is predeceased by his wife of 59 years, Gayle; survived by children, Corinne Parks (Tony), Christina Ballaris (Mark), and Kenneth Morris (Karen); grandchildren, Michael Parks (Taylor), Katie McIntire (Steven), William Ballaris, and Weatherly Ballaris; great grandchildren, Zoey and Madelyn; brothers, Donald Jr. and Stanley. Services will be held September 7, 2024 at 2:00pm at St. Michael’s and All Angels Episcopal Church. Remembrances may be made to the Oregon Lions Sight and Hearing Foundation or SacredFlight.
