Susan Elaine BeLusko was surrounded by family as she passed into the loving arms of God on May 13, 2018. She was born to Joe and Dorothy Van Metre on July 15, 1949 in Lewistown, Montana. Her formative years were spent there. She attended Montana State University and later was employed in the healthcare field: first at St. Joseph Hospital and then at the elder care facility in Lewistown. Sue was always proud to be a “Montana Girl” and loved to spend time in her former state.
Sue met her first, and only love, Tom BeLusko in 1969. They were married on December 27, 1969. She said she was “never” going to let him go and even after her passing, that love affair continues. After their marriage, Sue and Tom moved to Glendale, Arizona where he was stationed. Later, Tom Jr. was born. Tom’s next assignment was Korea, so Sue and Tom Jr. returned to Lewistown, Montana. Upon completion of Tom’s military service, the family moved to Portland in 1972 to begin a new life as Oregonians. From that time forward, Sue worked tirelessly on behalf of her son, husband and family. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who displayed much dignity, devotion, loyalty, tenacity, and love.
In addition to her work at home, Sue later began a career in the insurance industry. She started as a file clerk with North Pacific Insurance Company. As the years progressed, Sue became an experienced and proficient insurance adjuster. She proudly retired after 29 years and was thankful for many wonderful friends and acquaintances made during that time.
Sue was preceded in death by her father, Joe, her mother, Dorothy, and brother, Charles. She is survived by her husband, Tom, her son, Tom Jr., daughter-in-law, Jennifer, granddaughter Macy, and grandson, Ryder. Sue also had numerous brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews whom she loved dearly.
The family extends their sincere appreciation to the Providence Hospice staff for all their care and comfort during Sue’s illness.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to St. Pius X Catholic Church, 1280 NW Saltzman Road, Portland, OR 97229, www.stpius.org, under “Giving” (Other) or to Providence Hospice Services, 10126 SW Parkway, Portland, OR 97225, www.providence.org/hospice.
