March 17, 1930 – March 1, 2025
With profound sadness yet immense gratitude for a life beautifully lived, we announce the passing of our beloved Tiana Kam Ying Wong, who departed this world on March 1, 2025, just shy of her 95th birthday. She leaves behind a legacy of love, wisdom, and unwavering dedication to her family, faith, and community.
Born in Hong Kong to Ng Gum Pui, a respected businessman, and Wong Man Hing, Tiana was the second eldest daughter in a family of 27 siblings. From an early age, she embodied resilience, intellect, and a deep sense of responsibility. She attended Pui Doh Girls Academy, where she cultivated a love for learning that would become the foundation of her life's work. She began her career as a kindergarten teacher in Kowloon, Hong Kong on Tsim Sha Tsui at Lock Doh School, nurturing young minds with kindness and patience.
In 1957, Tiana married Henry Wong, and together they embarked on a journey to the United States, embracing the promise of new opportunities while preserving the rich traditions of their heritage. Settling in Portland, Oregon, Tiana dedicated herself to education and community service, becoming a beloved teacher and later the principal of the Portland Chinese Language School. Through her unwavering guidance, she instilled in countless students a deep appreciation for their language and culture, earning the admiration and respect of generations.
Her devotion extended beyond the classroom. A pillar of the Portland Chinese Presbyterian Church, she served as an elder, offering wisdom and strength to those in need. Whether through her leadership, her quiet acts of kindness, or her steadfast faith, she touched the lives of all who crossed her path.
In her later years, Tiana brought warmth and grace to her role as a hostess and bookkeeper at the Chinese Garden Restaurant, where she welcomed patrons with the same generosity of spirit she shared with family and friends. A voracious reader and lifelong learner, she remained intellectually engaged well into her 90s, keeping up with current events and exploring the digital world with curiosity—even surfing YouTube for the latest news and insights.
Yet, above all her accomplishments, Tiana’s greatest joy was her family. She cherished her children and adored her grandchildren, showering them with unconditional love, wisdom, and, of course, endless doting. Her presence was a source of comfort and strength, a guiding light that will continue to shine in the hearts of those who knew her.
Tiana was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Henry Wong. She is survived by her devoted children, Suana Chin (Ron), Elton Wong (Rita), and Tina Sun (Fuhe); and her cherished grandchildren, Michael Chin (Michelle), Connor Wong, Nicholas Sun, and Catherine Wong.
Her departure leaves an unfillable void, yet her spirit will live on in the lives she touched, the lessons she imparted.
A memorial service will be held to honor and celebrate her life on March 11, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Lincoln Memorial Park, 11801 SE Mt Scott Blvd, Portland, Oregon.
We take solace in knowing that she has reunited with her beloved Henry and that her legacy of love, grace, and unwavering devotion will endure for generations to come.
Rest in peace, dearest Tiana. You will be forever missed and eternally loved.
