Toyoko Chiba Bredeen, 81, of Portland passed away on February 12, 2018. Toyoko was born in Ishinomaki, Japan to Tomesaburo Chiba and Fumi Sugano and she was raised with eight siblings. Toyoko met her husband Perry A. Bredeen, Jr., while he was stationed in Sendai for the Army. They married April 23, 1957 and then moved from Japan to Portland later the same year. Together they raised four children, Pamella, Charmane, Perry III and Rachelle.
Toyoko was a pioneer member of the Buddhist organization in Portland, Oregon. She devoted her life to supporting the SGI-USA Soko Gakai, traveling, cooking and spending quality time with her family. Toyoko will be remembered for her great sense of humor and the love and care she shared with those that knew her.
Toyoko is preceded in death by her father, Tomoesaburo; and brother, Anchan. She is survived by her children, Pamella, Charmane (Lonnie Lathrom), Perry III, Rachelle (Bryan Lutter); grandchildren, Cody Lathrom and Chad Thomas; mother, Fumi, siblings, Chieko, Chiyoji, Toshiko, Yoko, Yukiko, Kozo and Junko. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 24th at 2:00pm at Finley Sunset.
