Trudy C. Kay, age 66, passed away at home from natural causes. She lived her entire life in Portland, graduating from Franklin High School (1972) and Mt. Hood Community College.

The majority of her working career was in telecommunications; “Ma Bell”, US West, Qwest.

She loved the Oregon coast, Maui, camping, birding, reading, and telling mesmerizing stories. She definitely had the gift of gab.

Trudy had a sense of community and was a volunteer with the Feral Cat Coalition, supporter of the American Red Cross and Oregon Public Broadcasting.

Trudy is survived by her lifetime partner of 37 years, Freda Bratcher; siblings Ronald Kay and wife Lynne; Carolyn Kay and husband Gary Richert (all of Portland OR); Janet McQueen and husband Dan (Ketchikan AK); nephew Dustin Kay (CA); niece Jessica Walker (WA).

Trudy was talented, artistic, and fun, with a natural-giving spirit. Her compassion inspired and endeared her to all who knew her. She is greatly missed and her loving spirit will live in our hearts forever.

Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.skylinememorialgardens.com for the Kay family.

I have several memories over the years with Trudy. We met at Pacific NW Bell in 1986. We had an immediate connection. Alot of family similarities that we always shared.
Later, in 2016, Trudy came to work at my place of employment. The candidates that came through the office were drawn to her infectious smile and charming personality. She would always tell them to go 'Celebrate Yourself' That always brought a smile to those people. She brightened so many lives with just a couple of kind words. She is now celebrating herself in Heaven.
Love you always DD

My name is Jerri Price nee Cooley. I worked with Trudy for many years at the phone factory(that's what I called it). We enjoyed many happy times and adventures together. She even visited me when I moved to Canada. One of my favorite memories is when Trudy, Stacy and I all worked together. On our breaks, we would find some cubby hole to hide in and we always said we talked smack about everyone. We really didn't. We called ourselves the Witches of Eastwick; Trudy was Susan Sarandon. She knew no stranger and she had a heart bigger than all outdoors. I know she has left a hole in many of our hearts. I miss her so and I feel blessed to have had her in my life. Safe travels dear friend see you on the other side.

Trudy and I were coworkers at the phone company for many years. She was a joy to work with and we stayed friends after we were laid off. I will never forget the time I meet her for coffee and we sat for 5 straight hours talking. She was a great storyteller. I will miss her humor and friendship.

Trudy is my sister’s sister-in-law. I’ve always felt like the Kays were my family also. I’ve known Trudy for well over 50 years. She has always been a bubbly personality I looked forward to sharing time with. She always made you feel like you were special, and had great stories to share. I’m broken hearted for everyone who shares her loss.
