Valora Henriette Davis (Vicki) lived a special life, she was born May 31, 1920 in Chokio Minnesota was the youngest of 8 children. She graduated from Holloway High School 1938 and moved to Minneapolis to go to Secretarial & Business School. She met and married Newton A. King and they moved west to Oregon in October 1941, with a dream, and a plan to homestead in Alaska’s Matanuska Valley; that dream was never realized because of WWII. They were on the dock in Seattle ready to board the ship to Anchorage on December 7, 1941 with their infant son James. By emergency order the ship did not sail with any civilian passengers that day. They decided, since they could not go to Alaska, they would settle in the Portland area near friends. She retired from the US Fish and Wildlife Service in 1984. Valora had six children James, John, Judy, Stephen, Gary and Christopher. She later met and married Eldon Davis and lived in Estacada Oregon for many years. Her parents, her husband, all of her sibling, and her sons James and John have preceded her in going Home to the Lord. She is survived by her children and their spouses Becky King, Judy and Robert Beisell, Stephen and Sharon King, Gary King, and Christopher and Aloma King, and 15 grand children and 33 great grandchildren. She was a charter member of Peace Lutheran Church in Estacada, Oregon, and was a long time member of Resurrection Lutheran Church in Portland. She lived her faith and passed that on to her children. She loved to travel, and was a voracious reader never to be found without a book. She passed a love of reading to her children. She also loved to fish on quiet lakes, go to the beach, eat crusty breads with real butter, chocolates and strawberries.
