Vance Leroy Grainger passed away on June 23rd, 2019. He will be greatly missed by all of his children and grandchildren. Vance was born on March 4th, 1934 in Modesto, California to Albert and Etta Grainger (Howell). The family moved to Vallejo, California in 1941 and then to Lodi, California in 1944. It is in Lodi where he first started to think about becoming a Druggist or Pharmacist (as we say today). Each week, the whole family, including an older sister Eula, Mom and Dad and a younger sister Goldie would go downtown for a night stroll and ice cream. Vance would stand outside of the Pharmacy and peer into the windows thinking of his future life.
During his life in Lodi, he also met the love of his life, Bonnie Jean in 3rd grade. Vance became best friends with Bonnie’s brother Dan and they shared many joyful, childhood memories.
Vance attended Lodi Adventist Academy, La Sierra College and then the University of the Pacific Pharmacy School for his Masters in Pharmacy. He married Bonnie and had three sons, Wade, Rodney and Kevin.
The family moved several times in the early years but settled in Madera, California in 1978 where Vance established his own Pharmacy and worked there for 30 years. One of Vance's favorite memories was a family mission trip to Ile Ife, Nigeria between the years of 1964 to 1967.
We will greatly miss Vance; his recitation of poetry, love of nature, skiing, and sense of adventure.
Services for Vance Grainger will be announced shortly.
