Vasile Constantin Vieru, 88, of Portland, Oregon, died February 24th, 2017, peacefully in his sleep, in the comfort of his own home, after a long struggle with heart conditions and cancer. The son of the late Petre and Profira, born on January 18, 1929, lost his mother at the tender age of two. He was adopted and raised by the late Dumitru and Elena Irimia. He married Marta Vieru and had two daughters and one son. He is survived by his wife Marta, his daughters Fivia and Sabina, his son Emanuel, and 5 grandchildren, all living in the Portland area.
Victim of the communist regime in Romania, he was imprisoned, humiliated, tortured, starved and persecuted for his faith. He immigrated to the United States with his family in 1985 and lived in the Portland area till his death. A devoted Christian, always ready to help others, he left an amazing legacy of faith, dignity, courage and generosity.
