Wai-Chong Leung

May 24, 1940 – July 11, 2026

Our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Wai-Chong Leung, went to be with the LORD on July 11, 2026, at the age of 86.

Born on May 24,1940 in Hong Kong, Wai-Chong grew up with four brothers and three sisters. She attended True Light Girls’ College secondary school and became a Christian. She received several awards for excellent conduct, and played basketball in HK Macau regional division, After graduation, she enrolled in Grantham College of Education and became a primary school teacher in her former school. Her favorite subject to teach was mathematics.

She met her first husband, Kwok-Chi Yu, in a Christian summer camp at Alliance Bible Seminary in Cheung Chau Island and they got married in 1961. After her daughters, Sandra and Mackey were born, she raised her children and managed payroll in her husband’s construction firm. One of their most memorable projects was to design and build a worship chapel at the Alliance Bible Seminary where they met. During their marriage, the family attended Kowloon Methodist Church. She loved children and led Sunday School for 3 and 4 year old children. She loved singing and joined the choir.

In 1974, Kwok-Chi was diagnosed with cancer. Even while she took care of him and the family, she continued to manage their construction firm. After he passed away in 1981, Wai-Chong met Kwok-Fu Leung and they married in 1984. They attended the Chinese Evangelical Free Church. There, they enjoyed group bible study and led others to Christ through outreach and visitation ministries.

In 1986, she and husband immigrated to Vancouver, British Columbia and attended Burnaby Chinese Alliance Church. Wai-Chong supported seminary students and missionaries generously because she believed using her treasure for God’s Kingdom was her best investment. They moved back to Hong Kong 9 years later to care for her elderly parents.

In 2002, she and Kwok-Fu moved to Portland, Oregon to live closer to their children and grandchildren. They enjoyed gardening, inviting friends over, and traveling. They kept themselves healthy by swimming daily. Here, they joined Chinese Grace Baptist Church and were involved in many capacities.

In 2005, she had a stroke and developed vascular dementia. As dementia worsened, they moved into the Springs retirement community in 2014. She transitioned to memory care unit in 2019. Residents and caregivers loved her for her gentleness and kindness. Although her memory was fading, she could recite many passages in the bible with her daughters. Her favorite ones were Psalm 23 and Psalm 103.

In June 2026, her husband, Kwok-Fu, passed away. Shortly after, the Lord also received Wai-Chong into Heaven. She will be missed by many who were touched by her life, especially her three beloved sisters, Annie Osborne, Wai-Ching Canning, and Wai-Yee Au; her daughters Sandra Cheng (Heung-For Cheng) and Mackey Yu (Shone Lau); her stepdaughter Libby Leung (George Wong); her grandchildren Jami (Sam Trumbo), Joshua and Joyce Cheng, Kristen (Doug Jones), Leslie Wong; and her great grandchildren, Abigail and Elizabeth Trumbo, Emma Jones. She is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, and relatives.
