Waldemar J. Schmidt was born in Bolcie, Poland on August 31, 1926. He married his wife Gerda Charlotte Mattschull on July 14, 1956 and soon thereafter they moved to the U.S. They had three children together.
In 1963, he started his company Halsey Automotive Imports, Inc. 57 years later, it is still in business. He was a beloved brother, father, uncle, and husband, and known to all as Opa. He enjoyed fishing, camping, and vacations with Gerda and their family. He was a master rose gardener and a great card player. He had the gift of being able to fix anything that was broken.
He passed away at his home peacefully on March 1, 2020 at the age of 93. He will be missed by all, and will be remembered by his daughter Karin, his son Wally, and his sister Ruth, as well as his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
