Walter E. Zornado was born to Frank Zornado and Nina Karbouous Zornado on Feb. 26, 1924 in Portland Oregon. His siblings include brothers Albert Zornado and half-brother Richard Pasalich. Walter attended Jefferson high school for 2 years then Beaverton high school, graduating in June of 1942. He then joined the Navy to fight in World War II, served one year then transfered to the Marines 3rd Division as a medic.
In addition to participating in three invasions which included Iwo Jima, he received the Purple Heart. Dis-charged in 1946, he then went to work for the Multnomah County Sheriffs office as a police officer. He was also on the Columbia Gorge Search and Rescue team in which he was involved with many cliff repelling lifesaving missions. In addition, he also worked at Multnomah Kennel Club for 50 years as a groom, paddock judge and a Assn. judge. He was a long time member of the Milwaukie Elks Club. He was also an avid golfer and bowled. He is survived by his wife of 63 years Donna Mae (Combs) Zornado whom he married in 1948, children Janis(son-in-law John Kyser), Frank, Julie, grandchildren Justin Tyrrell and Donna Marie Elliott.
Funeral Service will be held on Friday, August 12, 2011 ~ 11:30 AM at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Milwaukie, Oregon.
Interment will be at Willamette National Cemetery with full Military Honors on Tuesday, August 16, 2011 ~ 1:00 PM.
