Way (aka Wayne) Chan was born in Taisan, Guangdong Province, China in 1940. At an early age he left China for Hong Kong. He was always fascinated with cars and intrigued by how the engines worked. He had a Midas touch and often beamed with joy when talking about cars. Amongst his car enthusiast friends, he was known for restoring and modifying an Oldsmobile 442 from its shell. He also studied the trades of cooking and Chinese barbecuing to prepare himself and his family for a new life in the US. He has operated and owned restaurants for well over 25 years. He was a devout Buddhist at heart, and always took advantage of visiting a temple whenever he traveled back to Asia.
