William “Bill” Hugh Gamwells, Jr. passed away April 14, 2021. Born May 20, 1930 to Laura Jeanette Smith and William H. Gamwells, Sr, he was one of five children. His parents and siblings - Byron Thomas Gamwells, Laura Ann Clayson, James Robin Gamwells and Rhea Jane Edwards - have all preceded him in death, as has his loving wife Violet M. Gamwells. He leaves behind seven children – Fred (Danny) Daniel Madgen, Iva Walker, Janice Morse, William Madgen, John Madgen, Franklin (Frank) Gamwells and Tracy Noblit, as well as 19 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Bill enlisted in the United States Army in 1947 and served until 1955. It was his unhappy duty to escort the body of his brother home after he fell in war. After his military career, he worked for the United States Post Office and retired after 30 years.
He loved to watch old western movies and do word search puzzles when he was not spending time with his loved ones or spoiling grandchildren. He enjoyed reading to his “kids” (a term he used for all his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren) and loved watching them grow. He enjoyed camping on occasion and putting together puzzles.
Bill has touched the lives of many and will be dearly missed.
