After graduating from Grant High School he attended Clark College where he received an Associate’s Degree. Bill went to work for Garrett Freight Lines/ANR Freight Lines as a mechanic and worked for the company for 23 years. Bill then went to work for FedEx, retiring on December 25, 2009 after 20 years. He met Lois Sitterly through mutual friends in 1966 and the couple was married in Portland, Oregon in 1967. They lived in Portland for eight and a half years before moving to Aloha where they resided for 28 years. In 2004 the couple moved to Molalla where they attend Molalla United Methodist Church.
Bill enjoyed woodworking and loved the outdoors. He enjoyed fishing (especially for steelhead on the Deschutes), hunting and camping. Bill was also a family man. He enjoyed cooking, working on cars with his kids and grandkids and supporting them in their own activities. Bill and Lois were fortunate enough to have opportunities to travel to Europe, Hawaii, Mt. Rushmore, the Grand Canyon and Black Canyon of the Gunnison.
Bill will be missed by his wife, Lois of Molalla; sons, Michael of Molalla and Jonathan (Juliann) of Estacada; grandsons, Daniel, Jonathan, Logan and Braxton Newton; and granddaughters, Kendallyn, Myelie and Savannah Newton.
A memorial service will be held at Molalla United Methodist Church, 111 Mathais Road, Molalla, OR 97038, on Saturday, February 1st at 11am. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Molalla United Methodist Church.
