William “Bill” Stockwell, beloved husband, father and Poppy, died May 26, 2021, at his home in Portland, Ore. Born in Portland to Richard “Dick” and Elizabeth (Penny) Stockwell, Bill was the oldest of the five Stockwell children and thus was often the leader in their adventures, rule maker, and instigator in tormenting the younger of the siblings.
Bill attended Riverdale Grade School, graduated from Lincoln High School, and went on to attend Whitman College in Walla Walla, Wash. After a year of fun at Whitman, Dick and Liz brought him home where he attended Lewis & Clark and could be under their watchful eye. Bill traipsed through Europe with his childhood friend Kent Jenson for six months where they purchased an Austin-Healey Sprite to tour Europe in. Bill joined the Air National Guard in 1964 and served for six years. In 1972 Bill had the opportunity
to start his own business. With his two business partners, they started a successful industrial and marine supply business, In-Mar Sales, Inc., that he eventually retired from after 42 years.
Bill was the life of the party and always making people laugh. He was an avid reader, loved to play tennis and golf, fly fish, drink good wine and smoke a good cigar. His favorite place to do these activities was at his house at Black Butte. Bill is survived by his wife of 55 years, LoAnn (Park); their children, Cindy (Mark) Schaffer, Rich (Jennifer) Stockwell; grandchildren, Sarah and Ryan Schaffer and Isabella Stockwell;
brothers, Page Stockwell (Rung) and Charles “Penny” Stockwell (Sally); sisters, Ann Cowger (John) and Laura Stockwell; several nieces, nephews, cousins and numerous friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 1 p.m., July 23, 2021, at Finely-Sunset Hills Mortuary. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Bill’s honor to the American Diabetes Association.
