

William is survived by his wife Gloria of 61 years, daughter Janice Long, son David (Ellen) Wane, grandchildren Travis (Danielle) Long, Kimiko Wane, Jennifer Wane, and great granddaughter Ellie Marie Long.
“Bill” as he was known to his friends, was born in Salem, Oregon, on July 31, 1926. He graduated from Oregon State University Engineering. He served in the Army Air Force during World War II. After the war he became an engineer at the newly formed Tektronix Corporation. Bill had the distinction of being a team member of the first Patent issued to Tektronix for the High Frequency Etched Circuit Board Connector. Bill worked as an electrical design engineer at Tektronix until his retirement in 1984.
Bill was a collector of mechanical and electrical gadgets and USA made tools. He enjoyed garage sale shopping and became a superb estate shopping specialist. He was known in the neighborhood a “hardware Billy”. He always had the right tool or the vision to engineer a solution to fix any problem.
The celebration of life service will be held at 2pm Saturday, August 6, 2016 at Cedar Hills United Church of Christ, 11695 SW Parkway, Portland, OR 97225. He was tireless in his devotion to his family, friends, and neighbors, and will always be missed. Arrangements by Finley Sunset Hills Mortuary.
