Alfred and I sailed together for many years on the Spruceglen. We were both there at the beginning and took the ship around the world together. The Crew of the Spruceglen proved to the world that Canadians were worth their weight in the Global Marine industry. I firmly believe as the Ex-Chief Officer for the ship, that none of our accomplishments would have been possible without Alfred. His strength and determination to see our voyages through, his leadership abilities provided an invaluable part of our team. Alfred worked with me on projects that I could not of completed without his skills.
I could tell you many stories about his accomplishments and life on board, but mostly remember talking about his Son, His Wife, Brother, and family. He worried about and loved you all very much. We had many Dad to Dad chats.
Alfred took care of himself, loved God and family, There is no doubt in my mind that his soul and energy were as positive and loving as one could be and that he is now in a great place, waiting for his loved ones and following you throughout your lives.
I am very sorry that I cannot attend the service but will be here if you ever need me for anything. Its the least I can do for Alfred.
