Dear Dad, It will soon be a year since you left this earth and that day hangs heavy in my heart... I have tried to keep the promises that I made to you.. I can know smile and be happy when I talk and think about you, but does not mean that I do not miss you very much.. You will live on in my heart forever... I love and miss you so much.. Dear Dad, The first Christmas is upon us since your passing... It will be very sad not having you with us but each and every family member will be thinking of you... Dear Dad, It has been two weeks since you left this earth and my heart aches so much.. Fall is going to be here soon.. It is almost time for Robert to go out to the garden and pick out his pumpkin.. We will miss you not being there showing us all the pumpkins and making suggestions on which ones would make the best jack-o-lanterns. I do believe you will be watching from heaven to see what pumpkins Robert picks out... You loved the trees and flowers and plants and gardens so much. Holly was so right when she told me that if I am missing you and want to be close to you then go out walk among the trees and flowers. Dear Swingle Family,
I am so sorry to hear about the loss of Alton.  I worked at the farm with him a few summers planting trees, harvesting pumpkins, and digging potatoes.  He taught me a lot about farming and tree planting and my family benefits every year from his teaching.  I have growing many flowers and trees that he generously gave away and one of the trees (a black walnut) is getting very large and bearing nuts this year.  Hopefully we can continue to follow his generous example of planting trees and caring for the forest as a gift to the next generation.

I remember how kind Al was about sharing his knowledge of growing vegetables and his giant pumpkins. He always gave me some of his seeds and guided me on how to get the best results. He was also kind enough to let me hunt on his land. He was a kind and generous man. I enjoyed talking about gardening with him so much. I know he will be missed by his beloved family and friends. So sorry to read of Al's passing.  We hope that he did not suffer long.  We have such wonderful memories of our 37 years spent in Potsdam (Slab City) and of your family moving here just a few years after we arrived in 1972.  We enjoyed the woodswalks at your property and I always drove slowly past your gardens to enjoy each addition that was added, clearly a result of Al's love and understanding of the natural world.  Sending to you and your family  and those who loved Al our deepest condolences.
