Mrs. Ann K. Scott, age 105 of Potsdam, NY passed away on Monday, September 30th at the United Helpers Maplewood Campus in Canton, NY. There will be a mass of Christian burial held on Thursday, October 3, 2013 at 10 am at St. Mary’s Church with Msgr. Robert Aucoin celebrant. Burial will follow the service at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Potsdam. Friends may call at the Garner Funeral Service on Wednesday, October 2nd from 4-7 pm. Ann is survived by her sons Alton J. (Donna) Scott, Robert H. (Janice) Scott, daughter in law Marjorie Scott; 18 grandchildren, dozens of great grandchildren and a multitude of great great grandchildren. She is predeceased by her husband Lauren L. Scott Sr.; her sons Lauren L. Scott Jr. and John D. “Jack” Scott and her daughters Lorraine Jones and Mary Bunstone.
Mrs. Ann K. Scott was born on September 25, 1908 in Brasher Falls, NY to the late Dennis and Mary Donovan Murray. In 1909 she and her family moved to the South Canton Road where they operated a Dairy Farm. She was a 1927 graduate of Potsdam Central High School and then a graduate of the Potsdam Normal School in 1929. Ann married Mr. Lauren L. Scott at St. Mary’s Church on April 21, 1930. She was a school teacher in the Morley, Canton and Potsdam area for many years until her retirement in 1971. While teaching, she and her husband continued to operate the farm. They sold the farm in 1971 and moved to Hannawa Falls. He passed away in 1988. She moved to the Mayfield Apts. in 1993 and then to the Nursing Home in 2008.
Ann was a member of St. Mary’s Church, New York State Retired Teacher’s Association, Mayfield Apartments Tenants Association (past Vice President),was a past volunteer for Hospice, member of the Home Bureau, Canton Area Retired Teachers, Bereavement Committee and she taught religious education classes. She received the senior citizen award of the year of St. Lawrence County in 1998 for her extensive volunteer work. Ann was very proud of her Irish heritage.
