Edward L. Sweeney

Funeral Services for Edward L. Sweeney, 72, of Potsdam will be held Tuesday, April 30, 2019 at St. Mary’s Church in Potsdam, NY at 11am with Rev. Stephen Rocker celebrant. Calling hours will be held on Monday, April 29, 2019 at Garner Funeral Home from 4-7 pm. Edward passed away Tuesday, April 23, 2019 at Canton-Potsdam Hospital. Arrangements have been entrusted to Garner Funeral Service. Contributions can be made to the Potsdam Volunteer Fire Department.

Edward is survived by daughter Patricia Sweeney of Brattleboro, VT, sons, John (Sharon) Sweeney of West Stockholm, and Brian Sweeney of South Glens Falls, NY, a twin brother John Sweeney of Lakeland, FL, grandchildren Austin Willard, Aspen Willard, Summer Sweeney, David Johnson, Michael Johnson, Malinda Johnson, Robert Follett, half brother Roger (Leola) LaShombe and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is predeceased by his half sister Elaine Smith.

Edward was born July 14, 1946, a son of the late John and Hazel (Sharpstene) Sweeney in Potsdam, NY. He graduated from Potsdam High School and moved to Rochester where he attended college and worked for Eastman Kodak for a few years before returning to Potsdam. He became a carpenter and worked for the local union for over 30 years before retiring.

Edward enjoyed the outdoors by fishing, camping at Long Lake, hunting, spending time with friends, woodworking projects for his family, giving to others, and being a lifetime fan of the New York Yankees. Condolences and fond memories can be shared online at www.garnerfh.com.

I am so sorry of your loss. I was Elain!s best friend from kindergarten until she passed away. Elains and I would push the double stroeller with both John and Edward every day after school. I took care of Johne and Elains touch care of Edward!!! While walking one day A Mr Sission stop and told us what beautifull brothers we had. We were so PROUD! IrememberMaple st. and Depot street very well and playing with the twins. My sympathy to all the family. Wonderful memories.
