Mrs. Ellen R. Lindsey, age 90 formerly of Fort Jackson, NY passed away on Thursday, November 8, 2018 at the Canton Potsdam Hospital where she had been admitted on the 7th. . Friends may call at the Garner Funeral Home on Monday, November 12th from 2-4 and 7-9. A funeral service will be held the next day at the Garner Funeral Home at 11am. Burial will follow the service at Fort Jackson Cemetery in Hopkinton, NY. Contributions in her memory can be made to the Tri-Town Volunteer Rescue Squad. Ellen is survived by her sons Gerald D. (Linda) Lindsey of Brewerton, NY, Randy A. (Amber) Lindsey of Potsdam, NY; daughters Diane Lindsey and companion Cindy Fraser of Rome, NY, Donna Perry of Potsdam, NY, Laura McCormick and companion Joe Stewart of Oklahoma City, OK; daughter in law Brenda Lindsey; 14 grandchildren, several great grandchildren and one great, great grandson; nieces and nephews; brother in law Edson Lindsey; sister- in- laws Rita Barber and Connie Leach; and a God daughter Denise McGowan. She is predeceased by her husband Kenneth W. Lindsey Sr., her son Kenneth W. Lindsey Jr., brothers John and Frederick Leach and her sisters Roleane Spear, Elizabeth Desjardins and Nina Leach.
Ellen R. Lindsey was born on April 8, 1928 in Potsdam, NY to the late Paul Leach and Ruth Trask. She was a 1946 graduate of Parishville High School. She attended secretarial college for a couple years. She was married on June 21, 1948 at the St. Lawrence Catholic Church in North Lawrence, NY to Kenneth W. Lindsey Sr. She worked at the nursing home in Moira, NY for 9 years and then for Potsdam State Teacher’s College for many years in the book store department until her retirement.
She enjoyed camping with her husband. She loved playing cards, baking and doing crossword and word searching puzzles. She had a love for birds, especially Cardinals and Humming Birds. She had a very special bond and interest with the Hopkinton Historical Museum. She spent a lot of time there growing up. It was originally her grandparent’s home and Ellen lived there as a teen from the age of 16-19. She was also a former member of the Ladies Auxiliary in Hopkinton.
