George E. Wright, age 92 of Colton, NY, passed away October 7th 2025 at North Country Nursing and Rehabilitation Center after a long and well lived life. George’s family and friends are better for having shared his time on earth with him.
George was predeceased by his parents Everett and Martina (Longale) Wright, his wife Rosalie (Brundage), his daughter Rosemarie and her husband Lionel Stratton, and his son Theron (Teddy).
George is survived by his grandson Lional Stratton, grandson Russell Stratton, his wife Jessica (Dusharm), and son Eivan, all who reside in Florida.
George will be missed by Arlene Gotham, George’s companion of thirty years, and her children Frank, Rosilie, Diana, Stephen, Julie, and Rebecca, as well as Arlene’s grandchildren, especially Sherri, Kyle, Daniel, Bethany, Nathaniel, Mary, and Jonathan, who created cherished memories with George.
George will also be missed by an extensive extended family of cousins. The special friendship that grew through the years with his cousin Fred (Bubby) Wright and his son Mark was strong and true to this day.
George Wright was very proud to have been elected and to have served as Colton’s assessor for thirty plus years. He loved sharing stories of walking the area and what he saw and experienced during that time.
George was also the long time (over thirty years) supervisor of Cranberry Lake State Park. Through the years, many camping families have said visits with George at their campsites were highlights of their trip. George shared many stories through the years about his time working for the DEC and with Hank Seig. When George was at the nursing home, Hank’s visits were highlights of his day.
Our family is grateful George is at peace, but he left a hole that will not be filled.
Services will be held October 15 at Garner Funeral Home, Lawrence Ave., Potsdam, 12-2, then proceed to the South Colton Cemetery on the Snell Road. Lee Sweeney will provide the blessing. Condolences for the Wright family can be shared @www.garnerfh.com.
