Jim was born October 27, 1927, in Parishville, NY by the late Glenn and Violet (Skiff) Garlough. He attended and graduated from Parishville-Hopkinton Central School. He began a 25 year career as a bus driver and also worked for the family farm in Parishville. He married Virginia Rood in April 1953. After her passing in 1989, he continued to work at the family farm, then married Melva Sawyer in Decmeber 1990. He sold the family farm after decades of owning and operating in the 1990s and after Melva’s passing in 2010 he once again found love with Thelma Butterfield and they married on August 18, 2013 in Parishville, NY.

James enjoyed woodworking, making cabinets and furniture for his grandchildren, tending to his vegetable and flower gardens, cooking and baking bread and apple pies, playing cards, listening to classic country music, especially Johnny Cash, travelling with friends, and loved his cockapoo Cassie. He enjoyed being a lifelong member of the Masonic Amber Lodge #395 in Parishville, and was known as a good provider, hardworking, strong-willed, with a funny sense of humor and only grew better with age.
