Jean A Hewey

Mrs. Jean A. Hewey, age 90, of Potsdam, NY passed away on Thursday, May 21, 2026, at the United Helpers Maplewood Campus in Canton, New York. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the St. Mary's Church in Potsdam, NY on _____________. Burial will follow the service at St. Mary's Cemetery in Waddington, NY.

Jean is survived by her sons Robert L. Christopher J. and Jeffrey J. Hewey; sisters Ruth Gaines and Terry White; brother Wilfred Provencher, 5 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. She is predeceased by her husband James Hewey, son, Donald L. Hewey, sisters, Jeanette Martinez and Linda Hartley and brothers Glen, Richard and John Provencher.

Jean was born in Canton, NY on August 13, 1935, to the late Joseph Provencher and Elizabeth Burcume. She attended Madrid schools. She was married to James Hewey in September of 1958. Jean worked as a waitress at Vernon's Restaurant for years. Then she went on to work at Potsdam Central School as a lunch monitor and a bus monitor.

Jean enjoyed dancing, traveling, reading and watching TV.
