Mr. Lawrence A. (Luke) Herne, age 88 of Norwood, NY passed away at the residence of his daughter Pamela MacDonald in Hewitteville, NY. A mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday April 11th at St. Andrew’s Church in Norwood, NY at 10 am with Msgr. John Murphy celebrant. Friends may call at the Garner Funeral Service on Thursday, April 10th from 4-7pm. Burial will be in the spring at the Calvary Cemetery in Norwood, NY. Luke is survived by his son Ronald Herne and companion Francine Monroe of Canton; daughter Pamela (Robert) MacDonald of Hewitteville; 4 grandchildren; 2 step grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; sisters Lois Gooshaw of Norfolk and Sheila Farmer of Norwood and several nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by his wife Felma M. Herne who died January 30, 2010 and by several brothers and sisters.
Mr. Lawrence A. Herne was born on May 1, 1926 to Lewis Herne and Viola McDonald. He was a graduate of Potsdam Central High School. He served in the United States Army Air Force from 1945- 1948. He was stationed overseas in Germany for 16 months. Upon his honorable discharge he returned to Manchester, New Hampshire. He then moved back to the North Country and on January 9, 1950 he was married to Felma M. Ashley. He worked at the Rialto Theatre, The Roxy Theatre and The Moonlight Theatre in Potsdam, Nekoosa Edwards Paper Mill, St. Lawrence Seaway and then back to the Paper Mill where he remained until his retirement in 1989. Luke was a member of the Akwasane Senior Citizens Club, St. Andrew’s Church, Potsdam VFW and the American Legion.
