Patricia A. McCabe

May 5, 1945March 13, 2020

Patricia Ann McCabe passed away unexpectedly at the age of 74 on March 13, 2020. Patricia Ann Palch was born on May 5, 1945 to parents William and Mary. She wed her college sweetheart Thomas Harold McCabe September 30, 1967. Patricia is preceded in death by her parents and brother William. Pat is survived by her beloved husband of 52 years Thomas H McCabe, Waddington and her four devoted children Leigh Stark (Joseph),Potsdam, Kimberly McCabe Smith, Delmar, Thomas W. McCabe (Amy), Potsdam, and Michael McCabe(Emily), Massena. Pat leaves behind 5 adoring grandchildren Paige and Thomas McCabe, Cameron and Nicholas Smith, and Jack McCabe. She will be sorely missed by her four-legged grandchildren Sidney Crosby, Finn, and Cortland Cornelia (CC). She is also survived by her sister Emily Valentine (Stuart) and Deborah Thornton and Timothy Valentine. Pat was born in Manhattan and raised in Nassau County, NY. Pat earned her B.S. and M.S. from Potsdam State Teachers College. While attending the college Pat lived with the Valentines which led to a lifelong bond with her niece Deborah through their many secrets. She was a member of the Phi Kappa Pi sorority. Upon graduation, Pat delayed her career to follow Tom to Green Bay, WI with Proctor & Gamble. The couple returned to the North Country in 1970 where Pat began her teaching career at Canton Central. Many times, during summers the family would all get together- this took place at Emily and Stu’s home on Lake Bonaparte. Being around the Lake reminded her of the times spent at Bayville on Long Island, being by the water and her family every weekend was a lot of pleasant memories. Most will remember Pat as the “MVP Lady”. She hated to miss a day of work at MVP Sports where she has been the face of the business since 1980. Pat loved working at “the store” with her family and was blessed to include many customers among her closest friends. Those that were fortunate to know her or make her acquaintance will forever remember her short cropped white hair and easy smile. Pat be sure to “have a good one” and “get home safely”. Pat was an avid reader and puzzler. Her daily routine included at least one walk. Pat’s greatest joy was watching the youth, high school, and college events involving her children and grandchildren. She considered her family her greatest achievement. Pat’s extended family includes the parishioners at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Waddington. Pat’s extending her concern for others and thus there are no calling hours offered at this time. I offer my condolences to Tom and his family. Tom was a trailblazer who, through determination and perseverance, cut a path to playing hockey at the collegiate level for others coming out of NNCS. I have not had much interaction with the family over the years, as life's journey took us in different directions, but it seems that Pat created memorable impressions of her own. I wish the family well as they deal with this loss.

Dear Tom and Family,

Sorry to hear about Pat. Over the years we got to know her through sports and the shop. We may have not been in touch as often in recent years, but it didn't take long to re-connect with her. Our sincere condolences go out to the McCabe Family.

So sorry to hear of Pat's passing. She was a joy to harass a bit in college as her and her friend Carol seemed to always be together on campus. I remember many times she got upset with me over comments about the wrong guy she was dating, glad she found the right one.
