Mrs. Phyllis R. Hunter, age 77 of West Stockholm, NY passed away on Thursday, February 25th at the United Helpers Riverledge Nursing Home in Ogdensburg, NY. A memorial service for Phyllis will be held on Wednesday, March 2, 2016 at 11 am with Pastor Brooke Newell celebrant. Friends may call at the Garner Funeral Home on Tuesday, March 1st from 2-4 and 7-9. Phyllis is survived by her son Jeffrey W. (Patty) Hunter; sister Jean (Kenny) Tupper and granddaughters Jill (Larry) Rheaume and Jessica Hunter (fiancé Thomas Donnelly). She is predeceased by her husband Harold Hunter and an infant son James R. Hunter.
Mrs. Phyllis R. Hunter was born September 7, 1938 in Plattsburg, NY to the late James Rockwell and Dorothy Ballou. She was a 1956 graduate of Potsdam Central School. On June 7, 1957 in Colton, NY she was married to Harold W. Hunter at the Colton Methodist Church. She worked at Clarkson College of Technology for several years and then was a secretary at Lawrence Avenue Elementary School in Potsdam retiring in 1994 with over 30 years of service.
Phyllis and her husband Harold were inseparable and loved to socialize. They enjoyed music and attended many Blue Grass Festivals. She worked the election board for years, was a member of The Order of the Eastern Star for over 50 years, a member of the West Stockholm Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and a longtime member of the United Methodist Church in West Stockholm, NY. Phyllis was a joy to be around and her hugs will be missed by all.
