Richard A. Stone, 61, of Heuvelton, NY, passed away on July 28, 2026. Born on December 29, 1964, in Potsdam, New York, Richard lived a life defined by hard work, unwavering loyalty, and a heart that was always open to those around him.
Richard attended Norwood-Norfolk Central School, where he excelled as an all-around athlete. Throughout his life, he carried that same determination and dedication into everything he did. As a Heavy Equipment Operator, he worked for TJ Fiacco, Green Island, and Sheehan, and was a proud member of the Local 1058 Operating Engineers Union. He believed in earning an honest living, took pride in his work, and was someone his coworkers could always count on.
While Richard was known for his strong work ethic, it was the love he had for his family that defined him most. His daughters were the pride and joy of his life, and there was nothing he cherished more than spending time with them and watching his family grow. Becoming “Grandpa” to his grandchildren brought him immeasurable happiness, and they were a constant source of pride and love.
Richard had a passion for the outdoors and could often be found hunting, camping, snowmobiling, golfing, or fishing. Hunting was far more than a hobby, it was a tradition that created lifelong memories with his brothers and close cousins. The countless early mornings, weekends in the woods, and stories shared together forged bonds that he treasured deeply and that his family will continue to hold close for generations.
A devoted sports fan, Richard faithfully cheered on the Montreal Canadiens and the Dallas Cowboys, always bringing enthusiasm, good humor, and friendly banter to every game.
Richard will be remembered as a man with an enormous heart; kind, generous, dependable, and always willing to help someone in need. He had a quiet way of making people feel welcome, valued, and cared for. He was deeply loved by his family, friends, and everyone fortunate enough to know him, and his absence leaves an immeasurable void in their lives.
Richard is survived by his longtime companion, Sheila Jordan; his daughters, Courtney Chudzinski, Samantha Emerson (Dylan), and Natalie Stone; his beloved grandchildren, Camdon, Rylin, Jackson, Everleigh, and Charlotte; his father, Henry Stone; his sisters, Susan Centola (Ronald) and Laura Reff (Michael); his brothers, Steven Stone (Robin), Billy Stone (Paula), Michael Stone (Belinda), Timothy Stone (Emily), and Henry Stone (Michele); along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and countless friends who will miss him dearly. He was predeceased by his loving mother, Barbara Stone.
Visitation will be held on Friday, July 31, 2026, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Garner Funeral Service, Potsdam, New York.
A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, August 1, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Potsdam, New York.
Burial will follow at Bayside Cemetery in Potsdam.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of St. Lawrence Valley in appreciation for the compassionate care they provided to Richard and his family.
