Ross H. Logan

Mass of Christian Burial for Ross H. Logan, 84, of West Potsdam will be held on Wednesday, May 25, 2011 at 10:00am at the St. Mary’s Church in Potsdam with Msgr. Robert Aucoin, celebrating. Burial will follow in the St. Mary’s Cemetery. Mr. Logan passed away on Sunday, May 22, 2011 at the Canton-Potsdam Hospital.

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, May 24, 2011 from 2-4 and 7-9pm at the Garner Funeral Home, Lawrence Avenue, Potsdam.

Surviving Ross are his wife Theresa of West Potsdam, three sons; Thomas and Sharon Logan of Norfolk; Timothy and Debra Logan of Oswego and Joseph and Brenda Logan of Canton; two daughters, Mary Ellen and Paul Platz of Lowville and Maureen and Perry Daniels of Pittsfield, Mass; grandchildren, Kelly and Katheryn Logan, Mackenzie, Ross, Ryan and Mary Logan, Anna and Laura Platz, and Logan and Jacob Daniels and great-grandchildren, Elizabeth, Caleb and Evan.

He is also survived by two sisters, Margaret Murray of Norwood and Jane Cook of Baldwinsville and an aunt Mary Logan, a resident of United Helpers, Ogdensburg.

Ross was born October 22, 1926 in Waddington, the son of the late Edwin J. and Katherine (Thompson) Logan. He attended Norwood Central School. Ross served and was honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy during WWII. On November 22, 1951 he married Theresa Hayes at St. Paul’s Church in South Colton with Fr. John Murphy, officiating. He worked for the Potsdam Paper Mill and later for Niagara Mohawk Power Corporation as a Hot Stick Lineman and Foreman, retiring in 1988 after 33 years.

Ross was a founding member and first fire chief of the West Potsdam Fire Department; he was a member of the St. Mary’s Church Adoration Society. He was an avid hockey fan and enjoyed following his children and grandchildren’s sporting event and activities. He also loved spending time at camp on Higley Flow. Ross was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to many.

Contributions in his memory may be made to the St. Mary’s Church, Potsdam, the West Potsdam Volunteer Fire and First Responders or a Charity of one’s choice.
