Sheila M. Pitcher, age 81, of Potsdam, NY passed away on September 11, 2020 at the St. Joseph’s Nursing Home in Ogdensburg, NY. Friends may call at the Garner Funeral Service on Wednesday, September 16th from noon until 1pm. A graveside service will follow at 1:15 at Bayside Cemetery with Rev. Stephen Rocker celebrant.
Sheila is survived by her daughter Jeanine Pryce, her son Terry Pitcher and companion Jessica Shorette, and her daughter Dawn Burnett and companion John Cross. Sheila had 16 grandchildren, including Amanda (Pryce) and Brian LaCourse, Shawn and Heather (Parker) Burnett, Jordan Pryce, Samantha Burnett, Kallie Regan, Jacob and Kelly (Clemmer) Pitcher, Brooke (Pitcher) and Dillon Noble, Emma Pitcher, Isabela Pitcher, Jessica and Patrick Pitcher-Mills and Bryan Pitcher. Sheila is also survived by 14 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her great grandchild Sawyer Burnett, her sister Sharon LaPage, and her ex-husband Terry Pitcher.
Sheila was born on September 1, 1939 in Potsdam, NY and was raised by her mother and stepfather, the late Irene and Everett Enslow. She was a graduate of Potsdam Central High School in 1957. Sheila married Terry Pitcher Sr. on September 5, 1959 at St. Mary’s Church in Potsdam.
Sheila worked as a telephone operator for Bell Telephone in Potsdam for several years until the birth of her first child, when she became a homemaker. Later, she worked for Potsdam Big M/IGA, where she cut perfect steaks as a butcher for 30 years until her retirement.
Sheila loved to play bingo all over the area, and could be spotted carrying a bag full of bingo chips, dabbers, and all of her lucky charms. As a member of the St. Lawrence County Horse Shoe Association, Sheila was their Horseshoe Champion of 1995. Sheila’s favorite things to do included making her famous Spanish rice and tuna casserole for her grandchildren, dancing the jitterbug in her living room, listening to Elvis, drinking 7-Up, sitting outside under a shade tree with her late best friend Ruth Robar, and laughing whenever she got the chance.
