

Mr. Steven W. Greene, age 65, of Colton, NY, passed away peacefully at his residence on October 24, 2025, surrounded by his loving family and under the care of Hospice and Palliative Care of the St. Lawrence Valley.
Arrangements are entrusted to the Garner Funeral Service. Calling hours will be held at The Stables at Windy Point on Sissonville Road on Thursday, October 30th, from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held there on Friday, October 31st, at 11:00 a.m., followed by burial in Sanfordville Cemetery. Steve is survived by his beloved wife, Nancy (Thorne) Greene; his sons, Robert (Alice) and Daniel (Jessica) Greene; his brother, David (Cheryl) Greene; his sister, Julie Boslet; and his cherished granddaughter, Alexandra Greene.
He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Adele Thorne; brothers-in-law Richard (Annette) Thorne and Charles (Jean) Thorne; sisters-in-law Joanne (David) Arnold, Catherine Carpenter, and Susan Thorne; along with numerous other loved family members and friends.
Steve was predeceased by his parents, Dwight and Judith Wright Greene; his father-in-law, Robert Thorne; and his brother-in-law, William Boslet.
Steve was a retired New York State Trooper who dedicated his career to serving and protecting others. He passed away following a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer, which was duty-connected from his service at the World Trade Center aftermath. His strength, integrity, and devotion to duty defined his life and left a lasting impact on all who knew him.
Steve was born on April 9, 1960, in Potsdam, NY, the son of Dwight and Judith Wright Greene. He was a graduate of Potsdam Central High School, where he excelled in wrestling and soccer, earning First Team All-Northern honors in both sports. In 2010, he was inducted into the Potsdam Central High School Hall of Fame.
He continued both sports at SUNY Delhi, where he was part of a wrestling team that set a national record with 93 consecutive dual-match team wins. After graduating from Delhi, Steve pursued studies in Criminal Justice at Utica College before being invited to join the New York State Police Academy.
Steve entered the New York State Police on October 19, 1981, and served proudly until his retirement in 2002, when he held the rank of Zone Sergeant.
In 2005, Steve founded Decks, Docks and Beyond LLC, a marine retail business that he operated for many years, proudly serving the North Country and beyond.

Steve will be remembered for his dedication, courage, and unwavering love for his family, community, and fellow officers.
