Sally taught my children and became a friend to me. She was one of the most
Down to earth and simply the loveliest lady . Truly a great teacher one of the best at Massena, NY. I worked at the Massena Public Library and it was always such a pleasure when she came in, she would always talk about her children and what was going on . Such a personable lady. My condolences to
Her family .

Where do I begin? What great memories I have growing up with Uncle Dan, Aunt Sally and family. A person could not ask for fonder memories! Nothing meant more to Sally than family and friends. Whether it was at home in Massena or camp at Blake Pond, Sally was always there to greet you with open arms. I remember in passing telling Aunt Sally that I loved her banana cream pie and so for the next 30 years if she knew I was in the area there was always a freshly baked banana cream pie waiting for me at 50 Roosevelt St. I will miss you dearly Aunt Sally and until we meet again rest in peace and know you are dearly loved by all.

My dearest Sheila

Your mom , Mrs Sylvia Hayes was a classy , intelligent gifted woman .

I can remember her pushing your babies in the stroller on Bonnie Brae when she came to visit.
I enjoyed having conversations with her and amazed by her brilliance.
She was so proud of you Sheila.
My heart is so sad for you .
I just found out this hour and I am so sorry I am not there to pay my respects.
She will be an angel on your shoulder now.
Your children were so blessed to have such an amazing grandmother and role model.
God bless you all on this sad day.

With Love, your cousin Kathy Heaton-Garguilo

Michael,Sara,Sheila and Susan, I was so very sorry to hear about the loss of your Mom . She truly was a classy lady. She always made me feel right at home. I have fond memories of seeing and talking w/her, when the gang would gather for a game of risk , dungeons and dragons. She had a great sense of humor. I was often envious of my fellow classmates who had her as their teacher. I kept thinking what a gas she must be . I will miss her. I pray that you can all find some comfort at this time.
Speaking from experience no words or actions can ease what you are going through. But the memories and love that you all felt her will help carry you through. I regret that I will be unable to attend the funeral services due to my work schedule. But you will all be in my thoughts . If there is anything I can do please do not hesitate. My love to you all. I am so sorry for your loss. I knew Sally as a remarkable woman and gifted teacher.
Sally was my mentor teacher when I first entered a classroom as a student teacher in 1982. Sally inspired me to dig deeper to present the best possible education to our students. She was creative, energetic, positive, curious, profound, and she helped me learn how it was done, and more importantly WHY it was done. Sally’s reverence for knowledge, and thirst to share knowledge and thought shone through her twinkling eyes and spirited smile, encouraging all of her students. I was a better teacher for having her guidance and encouragement.

Mrs Hayes was an instant favorite of mine among the grownups. She had some kind of twinkle in her eye, full of mischievous curiosity and above all a boundless welcoming warmth that made me feel right at ease. Rest in peace.

Mrs. Hayes was one of my MOST favorite teachers at MCHS. She was instrumental in fostering my love for reading and writing and I learned so much from her...as Im sure did so many of her students through the years. I had no idea she was here in the Syracuse area (as I have been for 20+ years). I would have loved to connect with her (and have her critique my writing after all these years! ;)
Im sure this is not an easy time, but I am hopeful you have many wonderful memories to cherish.

With sincere sympathy,
Lindsey Helmer Hazelton
