Survived by her son Charles (Aleisia) Ashlaw; daughters Jo-Anne (James) Dishaw and LaRonda Ashlaw; grandchildren Jesserlyn Ashlaw, Derrick Dishaw, Adam Ashlaw, Joshua Ashlaw, a great grandson Gavin Dishaw and a great granddaughter Zoey Ashlaw.
Yvonne was born on January 2, 1948 in Potsdam, NY to Bert Jones and Estella Simonds. She was a graduate of Parishville-Hopkinton Central School. Yvonne worked for years for St. Lawrence County as the Nutrition Manager for the Office of the Aging in Canton, NY; retiring from there in 2009. Prior to her retirement she worked at St. Lawrence University and also was the owner and operator of the Edge of Town Restaurant for 9 years.
She spent her life selflessly caring for others. Countless foster girls over 28 years felt her capacity for loving and giving. At her restaurant she would feed those who could not pay and brighten everyone’s day. When she delivered meals to the elderly she stayed and talked to them and made sure they were healthy and smiling before she left them. When she managed the nutrition site she did special things for the elderly people she fed. She would make homemade soup and tell them to bring a bowl on Friday and send them soup for the weekend. She would knit them all slippers, dish clothes and scarfs.
Her family never doubted her love for them. She always put them before herself. She taught them compassion, work ethic and love of family.
She did all of this in good spirit and smiling despite many hurdles, hard times, heart breaks and illnesses. She was an inspiration to all of those whose lives she touched.
