

Barbara Davis Faber, 88, of 8939 County Route 77, passed away Monday, September 1, 2014 at home surrounded by her loving family. Barbara was born January 16, 1926 in Bath, New York, the daughter of Henry and Mildred Davis. Many of her family members were original settlers of Steuben County. Barbara graduated from the Hammondsport High School in 1944 and she and her high school sweetheart, Walter James Faber, were married August 24, 1944. The sweethearts recently celebrated the milestone of 70 years of marriage amidst friends and family. In 1947 the couple started their lives together on their farm cradled in vineyards overlooking Keuka Lake.
Through the years, Barbara became a master vineyardist in addition to being employed by White Top, Gold Seal, Great Western and Bully Hill Wineries. Barbara was a constant inspiration to the community by her passionate involvement as a Hammondsport Girl Scout Leader and a Church Vacation Bible School Leader, as well as, participating in the Eastern Star, Pulteney Ambulance Corps, the Pulteney Free Library, the Pulteney Presbyterian Church and choir where she shared her love of music and her amazing voice. She was also distinguished as the longest living member of that church. Most recently, Barbara was inducted into the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
Barbara leaves behind her husband and love of her life, Walter James Faber; brother, Douglas Davis; children, Beverly Benoit of Victor, New York; Marylee Snyder of Chipley, Florida; Susan McCullum of Fort Myers, Florida; Douglas Faber of Hammondsport, New York, Grandchildren: Susan, Thomas, Scott, Karen, and Michael. Great Grandchildren: Amber, Abigail, Alex, Sydney, Madison, and Kyrksen; son-in-law Gordon Benoit and daughter-in-law Jerine Faber, as well as, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Barbara will be greatly missed by all those whose lives she touched.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Pulteney Presbyterian Church and/or the Pulteney Free Library.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, September 8, 2014 at 11:00am at the Pulteney Presbyterian Church followed immediately by the graveside ceremony.
