

Elwood was born in Branchport, NY on July 26, 1922 the son of the late, Frank and Zelda Fitzwater. He served in the US Army from 1943 to 1946. He had worked as a farmer and carpenter. Elwood liked working with Draft and Belgian horses and loved to garden. He was an avid Yankees and Syracuse Orangemen Fan.
Elwood is survived by his daughter, Audrey (Ed Schuck) Cermak; sons, Mark of Prattsburgh, Richard of North Carolina, Robert of Bath, Thomas of Prattsburgh, and Gene Fitzwater of Florida; daughter-in-law, Tammy Fitzwater of Pleasant Valley; brother, Dale Fitzwater of Branchport; sisters, Melody Ann and Betty Jean; several Grandchildren and great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Janet Fitzwater of Naples; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends . In addition to his parents, Elwood was predeceased by a son, William Fitzwater; brother, Leslie Fitzwater; sister, Thelma Conley; and his nephew, John Fitwater.
Friends and family may call from 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 8 pm on Monday, April 25th at the Bottoni Wood Funeral Home, 4 Mechanic St., Prattsburgh, NY. His funeral will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, April 26th at 11am with the Rev. Don Peek. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Italy Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in his memory to the Prattsburgh Fire Dept., the Pulteney Fire Dept. or to the Prattsburgh Masonic Temple.
