

Harry was 82 years old and was predeceased by his wife Betty Bartz of 55 years, whom he adored and could always be found with. He is survived by his daughter, Marcy (Jim) Travis; son, Bill Bartz; grandchildren, Amber Elizabeth Budd, Jamie (Will) Hale and Christina (Travis) Payne; great-grandchildren, Jackson Payne, Autumn Payne and Lilyana Hale; sister Jane (Walter) Mehlenbacher.
Harry’s accomplishments and contributions were many. He graduated from Wayland High School in 1950 with a Regents Diploma and was a member of the National Honor Society. He graduated from the State University of New York at Geneseo in 1954 with a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Education and in 1961 with a Master’s of Science Degree in Education. Harry held Teaching Certificates in K-8, Social Studies, and Math; Elementary and Secondary Principle Certifications, and a Superintendent’s Certificate.
He pursued a lifelong love of working with children of all ages and held his first position as a High School math teacher at Dansville Central School. He also worked as a Junior High History teacher at Webster Central School and Haverling Central School before coming to Prattsburgh Central School as an Elementary Supervisor in 1958. Harry worked at Prattsburgh Central School for 31 years as Elementary Principal, Vice Principal and Superintendent of Schools. Upon retirement, he worked as interim Superintendent at Canaseraga Central School and Clerk of the Works for Prattsburgh Central School.
Harry’s investment in the success of his family, friends, school, and community will never be forgotten. He will live on in the hearts and lives of those he touched with his caring, wise counsel, and humor.
Family & friends are invited to call at the Prattsburgh Presbyterian Church on Wednesday, October 29 from 4:00-7:00pm. A memorial service for Harry will follow at 7:00pm. Memorial donations may be made in Harry’s name to the Prattsburgh Central School.
